I heard SL 2 is the worst of the series in terms of writing and so far it’s definitelly worse than SL1. Yet, I wouldn’t call it the worst. Tayiu Sword Immortal holds that spot pretty solid. There are some twists and turns and character growth, but it’s all about one guy who gets the best of everything.
I’ll admit that the story is kinda repetitive with the guns empire trying to take over the world (btw I like how one of their soul guiding douluos literally looks like an american lmao). The same conflict happened during Tang San’s era but you know what they say: history repeats itself.
Huo Yuhao just happened to be the chosen one and about his luck I believe a certain god might be pulling the strings behind. Remember at the beginning of the show he appeared and noticed that Huo Yuhao had a very particular fate. For a guy with humble beginnings and no heritage it is certainly absurd how he now seems more talented than the goat himself, Tang San… However, don’t forget all the finest mentors he had along the way: Yi Lai Ke Si, Mu En, Di Tian, Xuan Zi plus all the unique characters who are actively supporting him. They are even highlighted in this episode. You must have taken Tian Meng, Bing Bing, Xue Nu etc. for granted since they are living in his consciousness but they’re still separate and important side characters who explain the mc’s staggering growth. When you have that much help, you are bound to be peak.
As for for Huo Yuhao’s character’s development it’s too early to judge him, we’ll see how he evolves once he finds closure with Dong’er and especially when the war arc really begins.
I find Tang San to be a better character. He starts as a cute reincarnation of a weapon enthusiast with imba knowledge, some residual unique skills, then awakens 2 spirits and level 10. Nice package, but it’s nowhere near 1000000-year soul beasts that gift Yuhao rings, and begin to mentor him, then the guy from Throne of Seal pops up in his brain, then the Ice Queen, then that weird talking plant.
He’s constantly needed by everyone, everyone wants him.
So far he’s my #1 Mary Sue award contender with Qin Mu trailing slightly behind lol

Oh I forgot about his Ice attribute, well I don’t find it outstanding but it’s not that crap either. Remember Tang San had freaking vines xD (and a hammer, but vines are less cooler than ice imo)
But that was the cool part! Tang San did a lot with little. His skills were shit at high level, so he had to use hidden weapons, spider soul bone, bluff, diplomacy, cunning, and copious amounts of plot armor.
Youhao can single handedly wipe out armies and he isn’t even peak level.

nahh, i refuse to believe that old phoenix lady can fight not 1 but 2 soul beast who approaching 100,000 years level plus the mc himself who have a ton of plot armor and survive??? she fought 2 soul beast and huo yuhao in true body form and surviveeee??? damnn and after reading all of these people comments, i can only laugh🤣 bcs at earlier episodes i were like these people too, looking into every details and try to understand but nahhh it not worth it man, i just turn off my brain and just enjoy this series. I only turn on my brain when watching swallowed star and tales of herding gods.
Out of curiosity: i only watched a few episodes of swallowed star. I found the story about the MC who is a paragon of virtue to be too boring. And the whole concept of cultivation and melee combat in space didn’t stick with me. But maybe I’m too harsh? Does it get better?
