Spoiler alert: it need a long expalnation but inshort that guy is the creator of the cave world(Sealed Realm Lord) that wang lin lives now also the original master of the Celestial Eperor Qing Lin. I think he sealed a fraction of his soul in there.

Since when the lightning is a thing in general? The base elements were fire water wind and earth (like what Hong Die had). Electric frog was the only thing i remember, but now it’s a whole universe of voltage transformers and battery planets.
I kind of always thought it was his thing since he had that extreme physique in the beginning of the story and used lightning to one shot enemies.. his extreme physique was the original reason why he created a clone, since his extreme physique had a bottleneck and mc needed a clone without the physique to then merge with and overcome the bottleneck.. so lightning been a thing for mc.. cultivating lightning tho is cus of that envoy cultivation method..
No, lightning from “Extreme state” or “physique” was just a manifestation of condensed hatred. He’s main cultivation method at that point was freezing himself (and others) to death.

i think wang lin start to use this lightning stuff when he got the electric dragon to guard his soul(i guess idk if it his soul or just his consciousness) bcs remember when he stuck in the cave bcs all this 2nd step cultivator trying to catch him due to him holding that key to the hidden realm(is it realm or just a place but something that the celestial hide) so he hide at that cave just above the suction that transport him to luotian realm, i think its when he refine his first puppet and after reaching the luotian realm, he just happen to ride this big ass blue lightning dragon in a realm that emphasize lightning as the symbol to the lightning palace so these people just thought he is the envoy and he just went along with it. to answer your question, it just what the author chose to do i mean dude got a new lightning power and he is currently at place that regard lightning so high so why bother using his soul flag or his other stuff and lightning is not an element that got anything to do with the bead. author just decide to give it to him bcs why not right. its good to have critical thinking with this kind of series due to them having a good storyline, neat power system and pretty much not messy like others chinese animation series but in the end this is cultivator series, its already not logical as it is i mean this dude should be dead at the first few episode like what kind of insane luck does a mortal have to still alive after falling off a fricking high magical cliff, just bcs a bead heal him he not dead. so yeah if you really want to align the answer with the series then its bcs this realm he currently at is a lightning realm
